The European football community is in shock at the sudden passing away of George Baldock who used to play as a defender for Sheffield United. He was found dead in a swimming pool at his home in Athens, Greece.
Baldock, 31, made his debut for the Greek football club Panathinaikos this summer in August. He spent seven years at Sheffield United in England where he was very popular. Baldock was found by his wife who called the police. They failed to revive him. An investigation has been launched to establish the cause of his death.
His family in an official statement confirmed Baldock’s passing away. “As a family, we are in shock at this terrible loss and we ask the media to respect our privacy at this time.”
The Sheffield United Football Club expressed shock at Baldock’s demise. It said he was a defender and left the club in the summer of 2024 after seven years at Bramall Lane. Sheffield United highlighted that Baldock was very popular with the supporters, staff, and team-mates.

Baldock’s current club, the Panathinaikos also released a statement of shock and dismay. The Greek FC mourns the footballer’s untimely death. Harry Maguire, who played with Baldock at Sheffield United, paid tribute in a heartfelt social media post.
