Leeds United will face Norwich City on Tuesday night without their captain Ethan Ampadu in their eighth Championship clash of the 2024-25 season.
Ampadu sustained a serious knee injury – damaged his lateral knee ligaments in the match against Coventry City. He was substituted in the 41st minute of the match. As such, Leeds United’s captain will be out of action until January 2025.
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke confirmed in a press conference that Ampadu, 24, sustained a serious knee injury. He said the doctors have ruled out surgery and recommended a conservative treatment.

Ethan Ampadu Key Player For Leeds United
Farke told reporters that it’s difficult to predict how long Ampadu will be out. “But it’s realistic to speak about 10 weeks until he can return to team training,” he said. “We expect him to be back, playing again at some point in January.”
The Leeds United manager said teams and players cannot just rule out injuries because they happen during matches, and there has to be luck. “But Ampadu is our captain and one of our most important players,” Farke said. “He is a key piece for balance between defense stability and offense.”
Farke added that it’s a huge blow for Leeds United that Ampadu is not there, but the team has to adapt and move forward. Besides, the club has other injured players – Dan James, Manor Solomon, Isaac Schmidt, and Max Wober.
Nonetheless, Leeds United is determined to win its fifth Championship of the season.
