IPL 2025: Abhishek Nayar Rejoins KKR As Assistant Coach: Abhishek Nayar rejoined the Kolkata Knight Riders as assistant coach. Nayar was Team India’s assistant coach and was fired by the BCCI a few days back. The franchise confirmed this on their Twitter. Speculation about Nayar’s return increased after KKR spinner Varun Chakravarthy uploaded a story on Instagram.
Abhishek Nayar has been the architect of KKR’s Indian core since he came to the franchise in 2018 and was instrumental in their success in IPL 2024. According to the players, under his mentorship, the likes of Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi were all nurtured. Varun Chakravarthy, regarding last year’s final victory celebrations, significantly stated, “All I can think of this person right now who built this Indian core: Abhishek Nayar.” Venkatesh Iyer has also mentioned the contributions of Abhishek Nayar in the KKR squad and his hard work, for which KKR won the IPL 2024 title.
This could prove a strategic return for Nayar, who would be in KKR as they try to build on the defense of the title in the next IPL season. Under the new leadership headed by Captain Ajinkya Rahane, Coach Chandrakant Pandit, and mentor Dwayne Bravo, KKR is slowly gearing up to carry the momentum of recent success.
