Riyan Parag Penalized ₹12 Lakh as Rajasthan Royals Fall Short on Over-Rate vs CSK: Riyan Parag has been fined 12 lakhs by the BCCI for mentoring his team to maintain a slow over during the first match, which was held on March 30, 2025, against CSK at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

Riyan Parag could not escape punishments even for a narrow escape win of six runs after scoring 182/9 and keeping CSK at 176/6. It was because of Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct on minimum over-rate. That got activated for the first time in the season against his team.

The IPL’s official statement mentioned, “As this was his team’s first offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offenses, Parag was fined INR 12 lakh.”

Riyan Parag has had a tough time as the captain. He is the first Rajasthan Royals captain to now lose two consecutive opening matches for the franchise, with defeats against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. The victory over CSK marked a turn of luck, but being punished for over-rate just compounds his problems.

This incident reiterates the IPL’s strong emphasis on maintaining the pace of the game. Just earlier in the season, Mumbai Indians’ captain Hardik Pandya was fined for a similar infraction.

Next, the Rajasthan Royals will face the Punjab Kings on April 5 in Mullanpur. Parag and his side will look to build on that victory, ensuring that they do so for the league’s over-rate regulations.
