RCB overtakes CSK to become the most followed IPL franchise on Instagram. A major social media milestone was reached when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) became the most followed Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise on Instagram, overtaking their long-time rival Chennai Super Kings (CSK). RCB has 17.8 million followers as of March 31, 2025, while CSK has slightly over 17.7 million. This not only denotes the huge digital popularity of the franchise but also the unwavering loyalty of its fanbase, popularly known as the “12th Man Army.”

The increase in followers comes on the back of RCB’s historic 50-run victory against CSK at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 28, where they clinched their first win in this venue in the last 17 years. A feat that nearly definitely led to the rise in engagement on social media. The growing digital reputation of the franchise has been propelled by some of its superstars such as Virat Kohli. His massive individual following converts to immense engagement for the franchise.

Most followed teams on social media other than RCB

While RCB is leading the race on Instagram, the different IPL franchises are ruling on other platforms. CSK still holds the title of the most followed IPL franchise on Twitter. While Mumbai Indians (MI) occupy the third position on Instagram with 16.2 million followers. Other teams have employed KKR as the current leaders on Facebook, showcasing the diverse fan engagement strategies among teams.
