Anrich Nortje Ruled Out Of Champions Trophy 2025: Big Blow for South Africa: Anrich Nortje will not be available for the Champions Trophy 2025 due to a back injury. Thus, it will be an enormous disaster for the team. The Proteas were hoping Nortje would play a big part in the tournament.

His latest injury adds to the string of injuries that have plagued the 31-year-old fast bowler. Nortje has not played international cricket since the T20 World Cup last June. He was poised to return to limited-overs cricket against Pakistan but broke a toe while playing in the nets. He has not played for his SA20 franchise, the Pretoria Capitals.

Nortje has now missed out on an injury for the third ICC event in six tournaments, all of which were ODIs. He was out of the 2019 World Cup because of a broken thumb and the 2023 World Cup with a suspected lower back stress fracture.

South African Coach on Injury of Anrich Nortje

South African white-ball coach Rob Walter revealed that he was unhappy to learn of Nortje’s injury and felt it would have been a valuable opportunity to have in the tournament. “He is an ultimate professional. He looks after himself and takes care of his conditioning. From my side, it’s trust that he’ll be ready to go,” Walter said.

Gerald Coetzee, who has made a return to play for the Joburg Super Kings after sustaining a groin injury, is likely to be his replacement in the Champions Trophy squad.

Not only is Nortje’s injury a huge blow to South African chances in the Champions Trophy, but it also raises questions over his fitness for the IPL 2025. He was bought by KKR at the mega auction for INR 6.5 crore.
