BCCI to Evaluate Gautam Gambhir’s Future as Head Coach Based on Champions Trophy Performance: Gautam Gambhir’s fate as the head coach of India is currently under contention at the moment, as national selectors assess his performance in the Champions Trophy. It is set to be played from 19 February to 9 March 2025. There is a general mood of concern since current results have not been synonymous with excellence for Gautam Gambhir.

India has had a worse experience on the field, since the Head Indian coach, Gautam’s appointment. The last one and a half years have witnessed more presents for losses across several test series. Firstly against New Zealand, who registered a 0-3 victory here, and then against Australia in a 1-3 Border-Gavaskar Trophy loss. Thereafter, one frequently hears complaints about these matches in particular as far as Gambhir’s coaching and dealings with senior players are concerned.

Gautam Gambhir’s Role Depends on Champions Trophy 2025: BCCI Official

“If India doesn’t perform better in the Champions Trophy-even Gautam Gambhir is not safe,” said a senior BCCI official. The official also confirmed that Gambhir is not the BCCI’s first choice for the head coach. Originally, Laxman VVS had been chosen. However, because of some reasons, he was not fit enough to be chosen for that role.

Reports suggest that he has earned detractors in the form of high-ranking cricketers regarding many issues. Like team selection issues and daily practice schedules. Gambhir also attempted to abolish the “superstar culture” within the side and met with firm resistance in the form of a communication blackout, both within the ground and outside.

The BCCI further highlighted concern about Gambhir’s management practices during the most recent Australia trip. It includes permitting his assistant to take care of the team. Instances of assisting people intruding into regions allocated to teammates and selectors have highlighted calm reflections and disciplinary impulses.

As the Champions Trophy is nearing, the BCCI will invest its time to see the actual potential of any coach in Gambhir. If his expectations are not met, he may have to introduce several changes to the coaching staff. As the board is pressing to rebuild India’s image globally in cricket.
