ICC Approves Hybrid Model for Champions Trophy 2025, Extends To 2026 T20 World Cup: The ICC has officially confirmed a hybrid model for hosting the Champions Trophy 2025. Most of the tournament will be hosted in Pakistan, but due to geopolitical considerations, India’s matches, including knockouts, will be held in Dubai. This new model has cleared the way for logistical and diplomatic challenges.
This model is considered to be a satisfactory compromise between BCCI and PCB. It smoothly conducts the tournament under its auspices and sets an important precedent for organising future ICC events. With many more expected to follow suit by 2027. This follows Pakistan’s acceptance of the model during an ICC meeting to set the future agenda of events on the same ‘hybrid’ basis.
Besides, this hybrid model extends to the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, for which India and Sri Lanka will co-host. Matches of Pakistan in that tournament would be played in Colombo. One of which is the high-profile match between India and Pakistan in the group stage. This means that both countries would participate without compromising their respective security considerations.
