Champions Trophy 2025: ICC Rejects PCB’s Demand for Extra Revenue Amid Hybrid Model Dispute: The International Cricket Council has shut its doors to the Pakistan Cricket Board on the request for extra compensation and revenue for the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy. This shutdown is aimed at a dispute arising from negotiation regarding the hybrid hosting of the tournament. This model has been devised to tackle the ongoing political crises of India and Pakistan.

Hybrid Model For Champions Trophy 2025

Under the hybrid model proposed by the ICC, India will play its matches in Dubai. Since taking part in Pakistan is seen as a security threat. Besides, the final and semifinal are supposed to be held in Dubai. The match will be held in Lahore if India were to be out of the tournament before it gets to the knockout stages. This format ensures the participation of India in what officials describe as a commercially successful tournament.

No Extra Compensation for PCB for Champions Trophy

According to PCB, the hybrid model is part of the demands made by both parties, with the board also seeking an assessment of this change against additional financial compensation that will cover value losses due to key matches being relocated. However, the ICC confirmed that there is no additional compensation or revenue sharing. PCB would be entitled to a standard revenue distribution just like all other participating boards.

No Tri-Series with India

This quickly turns away the PCB from the ICC and BCCI, announcing that there will be no future plans for a trilateral event having India as a participant along with Pakistan. So, the cricketing ties between these two countries are limited to ICC tournaments or neutral venues.

Effects on PCB

The ICC decision does not have many options left open for the PCB. Most of the matches of the Champions Trophy will still be hosted in Pakistan. But not hosting India massively affects the finances. It will stretch its coffers to accept the hybrid model without any extra grant, but it ensures the remainder of its hosting status.

The final schedule of the 2025 Champions Trophy will be declared soon by the ICC. Meanwhile, backdoor negotiations would talk while PCB determines its next step. Moreover, this would further highlight the greyness of the interconnection between sports and politics, carrying massive financial and diplomatic stakes for each one involved.
