Pakistan’s Innings
After winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bat; however, two wickets fell quickly with Babar Azam (23) and Imam-ul-Haq (10) out for 47 for 2. This led to the gaining of momentum with the partnership of 104 runs between Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan. Shakeel settled in on 62; Rizwan contributed 46 runs. However, India’s bowlers, led by Kuldeep Yadav (3/45) and Hardik Pandya (2/35), choked the Pakistan batsmen and were all out for 241, having batted for 49.4 overs.

Chasing 242, India lost captain Rohit Sharma to a beauty from Shaheen. Then it was the turn of Shubman Gill with 46 and Kohli to form an important partnership, using all his experience and coolness to steer India from there. India lost Shreyas Iyer, who scored a half-century, but it was Kohli, finally, who went on to score his 51st ODI century. With contributions also coming in from the middle order, Kohli saw India achieve the target with little trouble within 42 overs, managing to finish off at a score of 242 for 4.

With this win, India advances to the semi-finals. While things will take an immense turnaround for Pakistan to stay alive in the tournament, as they have very few chances to qualify for the semi-finals.
