Australia’s Innings

Batting first, Australia managed to post 264 runs and was bowled out by 49.3 overs. Steve Smith and Alex Carey were the main scorers with contributions of 73 and 60 runs, respectively. Their contributions couldn’t help the side to build up significant partnerships. With important wickets falling just at the right moments when Australia needed them the most. The Indian bowling attacks, which had Mohammad Shami and Varun leading them, effectively restricted the Australian batsmen from producing a solid total.

India’s Chase

India’s target of 265 began horribly. They lost both openers, Shubman Gill (8) and Rohit Sharma (28), within the first eight overs. A crucial partnership of Kohli and Iyer stabilized the innings. The experience of Kohli, who scored 84 runs off 98 balls, combined with Iyer’s 45, changed the whole course of the innings. Australia’s slow bowlers, particularly Adam Zampa, were constantly creating pressure and taking many crucial wickets. However, India’s depth in batting ensured that they continued on course.

They brought the final stages of the chase to conversions through KL. Rahul (42 not out) and Hardik Pandya (28), both of whom pressed on the scoring rate. Pandya quickly blazed away, lifting Zampa for two sixes, and eased the required rate. The chase was finally sealed when Rahul took a six off Glenn Maxwell as India reached the target at 267/6 in 48.1 overs.
