Christian Purslow Announces Departure As Aston Villa Chief Executive. Christian Purslow, the current chief executive and director of Aston Villa, will step down from his position, as announced by the club. Purslow, aged 59, assumed the role in 2018, having accomplished remarkable commercial successes at Liverpool and Chelsea.
Following Villa’s defeat to Fulham in the 2017-18 play-off final, the club ran into financial difficulties, including an unpaid tax bill. Nonetheless, Purslow expressed his gratitude for the privilege of leading Villa for the past five years, calling it an absolute honor.
Purslow took up his post shortly after Aston Villa’s owners, Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris, took control of the club. They praised Purslow for successfully implementing the ambitious turnaround plan he presented to the club five years ago.
In May, Mateu Alemany, Barcelona’s director of soccer, decided against a move to Aston Villa and announced that he wanted to stay at the Nou Camp.
Rumors linked Villa with a possible move for Monchi, Sevilla’s sporting director, who has already worked with Emery.
Villa secured seventh place in the 2022-23 Premier League season and a spot in the Europa Conference League playoffs.
