Defending champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2024 opener at their home ground, the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on March 22. In the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Capitals faced a challenging season, finishing ninth on the points table with just five wins out of 14 matches. Delhi Capitals will start their IPL 2024 journey on March 23rd with an away game against the Punjab Kings in Mohali. The match begins at 3:30 PM IST, promising an exciting start to the season.
In the previous season, Delhi faced the absence of their regular captain, Rishabh Pant, due to unfortunate circumstances. The prominent Indian wicketkeeper-batsman endured a severe accident nearly a year ago and is presently recovering from its aftermath. Nonetheless, his highly anticipated comeback to competitive cricket is anticipated during IPL 2024.
This development is significant for Delhi supporters as Pant is not only an exceptional player but also a commendable captain. He possesses the ability to uplift team morale in any circumstance. One of Delhi’s major concerns last season was the poor performance of opener Prithvi Shaw. The aggressive right-handed batsman managed only 106 runs in the eight matches he played.
Anrich Nortje, who had previously performed well for Delhi, had a disappointing season with just ten wickets in ten games and an economy rate exceeding nine. Despite this, the team opted to retain faith in him. On the other hand, David Warner’s stellar performance was a highlight, scoring 516 runs in 14 matches with an average of 36.86 and a strike rate of 131.63.

Delhi Capitals Favor Wicket Keepers In IPL 2024 Auction
Delhi Capitals made significant changes ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, releasing a total of 11 players. Among the capped Indian players released were Manish Pandey and Chetan Sakariya. Additionally, they let go of young talents such as Sarfaraz Ahmed, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Aman Khan, Ripal Patel, and Priyam Garg. The franchise also opted not to retain overseas players like Rilee Rossouw, Phil Salt, Rovman Powell, and Mustafizur Rahman.
Delhi Capitals retained 16 players, including two wicketkeepers, Abhishek Porel and Rishabh Pant. However, there are uncertainties regarding Pant’s role as the primary wicketkeeper this season. In anticipation of this, the DC management may have acquired four additional wicketkeepers in the auction.
Among them, Kumar Kushagra, the 19-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman from Jharkhand, was signed for a significant sum of Rs 7.20 crore. Ricky Bhui, Shai Hope, and Tristan Stubbs were also brought in, each at their respective base prices.
The Delhi franchise secured the services of the skilled England batsman Harry Brook for a notable sum of 4 crore, while Australian pacer Jhye Richardson was acquired for 5 crore. Additionally, the team signed pacer Rasikh Dar Salam, all-rounder Sumit Kumar, and batsman Swastik Chikara.
