ENG vs SL: Joe Root Becomes The Sixth Highest Run Getter In Test Cricket: Another landmark achievement has been added to Joe Root’s glittering career, he is now the sixth-highest run maker in Test cricket history. In the current series against Sri Lanka, he has surpassed Kumar Sangakkara’s record of 12,400 runs in Tests, who was a great Sri Lankan cricketer. With 12,402 runs now under his belt, he is just behind Alastair Cook, England’s all-time leading run scorer with 12,472.
This came during the third test when he further proved his worth against Sri Lanka. He scored 103 in his second innings, making it his 34th Test century, thus setting an English player record for most centuries made by one person. England has greatly benefitted from Root’s current form, especially in this series where his centuries have helped elevate them to dominant positions over their opponents; however, he could only make 13 and 12, respectively, in two innings during the third test match.
The current series sees England taking the victory lap while Sri Lanka walks into a minefield with every run they attempt to score. In this regard, it is Root’s poise and technique that have dominated the entire series; he has not only broken Alastair Cook’s record for most runs scored at home but rather secured his place among cricket legends for eternity.
