France vs. Argentina 1-0 Ugly Clash, Racial Slurs: Paris Olympics 2024. The soccer quarterfinals between France and Argentina at the 2024 Paris Olympics saw tensions run high with a fight breaking out between the players and staff of both teams after the referee blew the final whistle. There was pushing and shoving and racial slurs thrown by the Argentine players. The police were seen in the stands trying to maintain order among the fans of both sides.

The tension returns to the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar where Argentina claimed victory. This time around the Argentina side had to bear the brunt, their national anthem was booed by a hostile crowd before the quarterfinals kick-off. This set the tone of the match as bad blood between the two teams intensified.  

Jean-Philippee Mateta’s header gave the hosts, France, its goal in the fifth minute of the match. Argentina failed to equalize and put the team ahead.

Argentina – France Postmatch Shovels

Soon after the final whistle, there was a skirmish between the two sides. French captain Alexandre Lacazette and coach Thierry Henry tried to break it up. Henry said there were angry exchanges between the players of Argentina and France when he went to shake the opposing coach’s hand. In the commotion, France midfielder Enzo Millot was shown a red card by the referee.

Henry said it was pointless as Millot wasn’t even playing at the final whistle. He highlighted his disappointment about the red card. France’s fans booed the Argentina side with a chorus of jeers and whistles.

The tensions between the two teams come after a video surfaced show Argentina players singing about France’s black players of African heritage during the 2024 Copa America final victory.
