Gautam Gambhir Recommends Morne Morkel For Bowling Coach; BCCI Yet To Decide. Morne Morkel is a key contender for India’s bowling coach position. Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel, who is famous for his long-standing coaching, has been highly recommended by Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach of the Indian cricket team. Morkel has previously been a coach of the Pakistan team during last year’s ODI World Cup in India, but he left the post a few months ago as a result his contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board didn’t come to an end.
It is reported that Gautam Gambhir has sought the bowling coach’s role by the BCCI recommending Morne Morkel. Morkel, who had previously played 86 Test matches, 117 ODI innings, and 44 T20 matches from 2006 to 2018, is now a local in the land down under. Cricbuzz separates fact from rumour and confirms that Gautam has had some initial talks with the ex-South African fast bowler.
Gautam Gambhir and Morne Morkel had a good working relationship at the Lucknow Super Giants IPL team, where Gambhir was a mentor for two years. After Gambhir moved to the Kolkata Knight Riders and head coach Andy Flower went to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Morkel stayed on as the team’s bowling coach under new head coach Justin Langer.
Morkel is known as a good coach in both international cricket and the IPL. At 39 and having retired in 2018, he still knows the latest techniques in the game. Gautam Gambhir, who prefers working with familiar people, is said to want Morne Morkel on his coaching team.

BCCI Also Considering Multiple Candidates For Bowling Coach Position
Several names are being considered for the bowling coach position, including Lakshmipathy Balaji, Vinay Kumar, and Zaheer Khan. The BCCI is expected to make a decision soon, but they are also considering Morkel’s young family and the travel involved. Morkel lives in northern Sydney with his wife, Roz Kelly, a Channel 9 sports presenter, and their two children. If chosen, Morkel would replace Paras Mhambrey, who has done well for the past three years under head coach Rahul Dravid. Gambhir has also recommended Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate, and the BCCI is looking to keep fielding coach T Dilip from Dravid’s team.
