ICC Awards 2023: Pat Cummins Named ICC Cricketer Of The Year. On Thursday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) declared Pat Cummins as the ICC Cricketer of the Year 2023 and he is also captain of the Australian cricket crew. For superlative efforts as a bowler and the captain of the team, Cummins was awarded this prestigious title.
The others in contention for this prestigious ICC Cricketer of the Year 2023 were both from Australia, viz., Pat Cummins and Travis Head, and an India duo consisting of Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. Australian speedster Cummins ended up winning this award given the stiff competition that he beat to clinch this accolade which was also the first individual career laurel for him.
Pat Cummins had a taste of an illustrious year of his captaincy stint in charge of the Australian cricket team. Under his leadership, the side achieved key milestones that included the winning of the final of the ICC World Test Championship against India, retaining the Ashes 2023, and overall win at the ICC World Cup 2023 – their sixth title on that front.

Pat Cummins: A Stellar Year of Leadership and Performance in 2023
While the year didn’t start at a high for Cummins with Australia losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, he quickly changed that. His standout in the ICC World Test Championship Final, returned four wickets, and an important hand with the bat set up the stage for a successful year.
In the Ashes 2023, Cummins carried his form into Bowling and batting as well. With his 18 total wickets, he also contributed to scoring 162 runs for the Australian team. Overall, with his overall performance, the Australian series triumphed. Cummins showed his white ball credentials in the ICC World Cup 2023. This was Australia’s slow start at best by winning nine games on the trot and Cummins played a crucial part along the way as they sealed the World Cup win.
He signed off the year on a high with a sparkling show against Pakistan in the Test series. The fast bowler was rewarded for his great form with the fourth spot. Cummins bagged 10 wickets at the MCG as Australia took away the series 3-0.

Cummins’ match-winning performance came in the final of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. After not making a huge impact with the ball throughout the tournament, Cummins led his side astutely in the summit clash. Introduced Glenn Maxwell in the powerplay and had paid off as he dismissed India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma. Cummins’ exceptional bowling picked crucial wickets to restrict India to 240 runs. The figures of 2/34 played a pivotal role in Australia’s victory in the final.
