ICC Champions Trophy 2025: PCB Accept Hybrid Model, Seeks Increased Revenue: The Pakistan Cricket Board has finally accepted the hybrid model for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. In this model, India would play its matches in neutral venues such as UAE rather than in Pakistan. The decision came after months of negotiations and threats of a potential boycott by the PCB if its rights as host were not fully respected.
Key Conditions: Revenue Increase from ICC events and Champions Trophy
The PCB has attached critical conditions to its acceptance, even if it marks a climb down from its earlier position. Firstly, it has demanded increase in its share of the ICC revenues, from a 5.75% allocation currently. Presenting the case on the ground that there are a critical number of stakeholders in organizing the tournament under conditions that aren’t very favorable politically. The PCB has suggested that the model be hybrid for all upcoming ICC events in India until 2031. It includes the 2026 T20 World Cup (with Sri Lanka), the 2029 Champions Trophy, and the 2031 ODI World Cup (with Bangladesh).
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi says Pakistan will not compromise on national interests against realities. “What we want is a fair distribution of income for these exceptional circumstances in which Pakistan manages to host the ICC Champions Trophy and further calls for ensuring that the hybrid model applicable for holding tournaments in India continues as far as any future events are concerned,” a PCB official said.
