ICC Test Player Rankings: Bumrah Becomes No. 1 Test Bowler, Ashwin Drops to 3rd. Jasprit Bumrah has surpassed Ravichandran Ashwin to claim the top spot in the ICC Test bowler rankings, marking a historic moment as the first fast bowler from India to achieve this feat in the ICC Test rankings.
Following an exceptional performance in the second Test of the series between India vs England in Vizag, where Bumrah claimed nine wickets across both innings, the right-arm seamer has risen to the No.1 position.
Ashwin, who had maintained the top spot in the ICC Test bowler rankings since March last year, has now slipped to No.3 after a subpar performance in Vizag, where he only managed to take three wickets in the game. Apart from Ashwin and Bumrah, two other Indians have previously held the top spot in the Test bowler rankings – Ravindra Jadeja and Bishan Singh Bedi.
Additionally, Sri Lanka’s left-arm spinner, Prabath Jayasuriya, has ascended in the ICC Test bowler rankings. Following his eight-wicket haul in the one-off Test against Afghanistan, Jayasuriya has moved up three places to sixth. Meanwhile, James Anderson has advanced one spot to seventh after claiming five wickets in the Vizag Test against India.
