IND vs AUS 1st Test Highlights: 17 Wickets Fell On Day 1: As expected, the first day of the Test series between India vs Australia at Perth Stadium became a serious contest among bowlers. As many as 17 wickets tumbled down on the opening day of the Test. The highest number of wickets to fall on the first day of a Test match in Australia since 1952.
India won the toss and opted to bat first but only managed to score 150 runs. The entire batting lineup found the Australian attack, marshaled by Josh Hazlewood, who collected four wickets, very difficult. Mitchell Starc complemented well, taking full advantage of the conditions to terrorize the Indian batting. Rishabh Pant and debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy scored 37 and 41 runs, respectively. Every other batter fell to the disciplined bowling from the Australians.
Australia’s response was also shaky when it batted and the Indian bowlers staged a spirited fightback. Jasprit Bumrah was brilliant with figures of 4/17 as he accounted for the critical wickets of Steve Smith and Pat Cummins. The debutant Harshit Rana also had an instant impact as he secured his first Test wicket in the match. While Mohammed Siraj struck to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne.
Australia was at 67/7 and stumps on day 1 and was still behind by 83 runs. Alex Carey (19*) and Mitchell Starc (6*) fought off the fiery spell from Bumrah in the dying minutes of the day.

The wicket at Perth Stadium enjoyed a considerable amount of bounce and extra lateral movement. This proved difficult for the batters to handle. Having both sides looking up to the bowlers to do the business for them, it’s safe to assume that the second day will also present more fiery action.
