IND vs ENG 2nd ODI: India Clinches Series with Thrilling 4-Wicket Win In Cuttack: India achieved a stunning victory over England with a 4-wicket win in the second ODI of the three-match series, thereby clinching a series victory with one ODI match remaining. Rohit Sharma’s century headlined the innings, with a solid half-century from Shubman Gill.

Put into bat after losing the toss, England set a very respectable target of 304 runs in 49.5 overs. Key contributions came from Joe Root with 69 runs off 72 balls and Ben Duckett, who made 65 off 56. Liam Livingstone hit 41 off 32 balls at the end of the innings. Ravindra Jadeja starred with the ball for India and claimed 3 wickets for 35 runs in his quota of 10 overs. Varun Chakravarthy, making his debut at the one-day level, impressed as a bowler, ending with 1 for 54.

Chasing for India

Chasing 305, India took off like a house on fire with a partnership of 136 between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Rohit was in superb form, outclassing all with a splendid 119 runs off 90 balls, with 7 sixes and 10 fours. Rohit Sharma opened with Gill, who supported him with a stunning knock of 60 off 52 balls. Despite suffering a few upsets down the order, a handy contribution from Shreyas Iyer (44 off 47) and Axar Patel (41 off 43) saw India finish at 308 for 6 in 44.3 overs with 33 balls left in the bank.

Rohit Sharma’s attacking batting in the chase created a standard for how the innings would unfold, making a hundred with a huge six. Shubman Gill exhibited sharp fielding while taking three crucial catches, which included a brilliant over-the-shoulder catch to dismiss Harry Brook. All-rounder from India Ravindra Jadeja played an important role in helping secure the victory with both bat and ball.

The Series Outcome

With this win, India leads the series by 2-0, making the third ODI a mere formality. The final match is scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad on February 12, 2025.
