However even after losing Bairstow on 38 runs, Root did not let go and together with Ben Foakes they built up momentum through an essential partnership of 113 runs. But Ashwin claimed Foakes’ wicket after he had scored 47 then Siraj removed Tom Hartley from the attack.
England reached a respectable target of 302/7 aided by Root’s century and partnerships he formed. Root, being an anchor man in his team, took different roles in this match which helped him to get a century in the 31st Test match.

England’s eighth-wicket batsmen Ollie Robinson and Joe Root formed a significant alliance that added 50 runs off 76 balls to the team’s total. Root, in his usual style, scored 23, while Robinson added 25 with help of two extras.
This partnership was crucial as England made it to three hundred in eighty nine point three overs facing five hundred forty one balls inclusive of eleven extra runs. By the end of the day, England were at 302/7 after ninety overs, where Root remained unbeaten on 106 and Robinson on 31 thus putting their team in a good position for tomorrow’s play.
