Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka secured a convincing victory over India in the third and final ODI, clinching the series 2-0. After a tied game in the 1st match and Sri Lankan bowling brilliance in the 2nd match, Indian batters failed to perform miserably. Sri Lanka won the match by 110 runs.
Sri Lanka’s Batting Brilliance
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, India posted a formidable total of 248 for 7 in their 50 overs.Avishka Fernando laid the foundation for this imposing score. The opener played with flair and confidence, scoring 96 off 102 balls, boundaries and sixes. His innings set the tone for Sri Lanka’s dominance, providing the stability and momentum the team needed.
Supporting Fernando, Nissanka contributed a valuable 45 off 65 balls, while Kushal and Kamindu Mendis added crucial middle-order runs with scores of 59 and 23, respectively. Indian bowlers, despite their spirited efforts, struggled to contain the Sri Lankan batsmen. Surprisingly debutant Riyan Parag took 3 wickets in his 9 overs spell. Siraj, Axar, Sundar and Kuldeep took a wicket each.

Indian batters Struggle
Chasing a daunting target of 249, India faltered early with Sri Lankan pacers making early inroads. Asitha Fernando struck in the early overs, dismissing Gill for 6 runs, and setting the tone for the Indian innings. The men in blue never quite recovered from this early blow. Despite Rohit Sharma’s quick start with 35 runs in just 20 balls, the whole middle order collapsed.
Except for Virat’s 20 and Riyan’s 16, the whole middle order scored in single digits.
They failed to perform yet again in the last ODI match of the series. Washington Sundar tried to build up the innings but didn’t get support from the other end. Team India scored only 138 runs and lost all their wickets. D.Wellalage was the star bowler, collecting 5 wickets including Rohit and Kohli’s wickets. Vandersay and Theekshana took 2 wickets each.
