IPL 2023: Nitish Rana To Captain Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) In IPL 2023. Kolkata Knight Riders appointed Nitish Rana as their captain for the forthcoming edition of the IPL as their permanent skipper Shreyas Iyer is recovering from a back injury. There were many opinions that Caribbean spinner Sunil Narine or India’s pace-bowling allrounder Shadul Thakur will be the captain KKR in absence of Iyer. However, KKR management opted for right-handed Indian batsman Nitish Rana as captain.
KKR took to social media to announce the appointment of the new captain. It was predicted that the head coach of Knight Riders, Chandrkant Pandit wants an Indian player as the captain of this two-time champions franchise.
Iyer complained of back pain while playing the last Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Surgery for his back problem can put him out of the field for the next six months.

It will force him to miss out on IPL 2023, World Test Championship Final (WTC), and ODI World Cup too. However, Iyer opted to take a rest in place of going for surgery hastily.
Nitish Rana is playing in IPL since 2016, then he was part of Mumbai Indians. In 2018, Knight Riders signed Rana in the IPL Auction. Rana played 74 matches for Knight Riders and amassed 1744 runs with a strike rate of 135.61.
