IPL 2024 Auction Set To Take Place in Dubai on December 19: Report. The IPL 2024 Auction, taking place in Dubai, UAE, on December 19, marks the first time the IPL auction is hosted outside of India. Franchises must submit their lists of retained players by November 26.
The TATA IPL 2024 auction will clash with the India vs. South Africa 2nd ODI at St George’s Park in Gqebera. Mitchell Starc, Australia’s premier fast bowler, has expressed his eagerness to participate in the upcoming IPL season as he makes his return.
Meanwhile, the ongoing TATA Indian Premier League trading window has seen Romario Shepherd moving from Lucknow Super Giants to the Mumbai Indians. Shepherd had previously participated in 4 IPL matches while representing LSG and Sunrisers Hyderabad and transferred to MI for his existing fee of INR 50 lakhs.

IPL 2023 Auction Brief Details
During the IPL 2023 mini-auction at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Kochi, Punjab Kings set a new record by acquiring English all-rounder Sam Curran as the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League. Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings secured Curran for a staggering INR 18.5 crore, surpassing his base reserve price of INR 2 crore.
Curran’s selling price exceeded the previous record set by Rajasthan Royals, who had bid INR 16.25 crore for South African all-rounder Chris Morris ahead of the 2021 season. The auction saw Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore initially enter the bidding race for Curran, quickly driving his price to Rs 7 crore.
At this point, Rajasthan Royals joined the bidding. While Royal Challengers Bangalore dropped out shortly after, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians engaged in a fierce bidding war. Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants also entered the fray, but Punjab Kings eventually sealed the deal to secure Sam Curran’s services.
IPL 2024 Auction Increase In Budget
Each team has a budget of INR 100 crore (approximately USD 12.02 million) to assemble their squad for the upcoming edition, marking a 5 crore increase from the previous season’s budget of 95 crores. Notably, the Punjab Kings possess the highest available funds at INR 12.20 crore, while the Mumbai Indians have the smallest budget at just 0.05 crores.

IPL 2024 Teams Remaining Purse
Among the remaining franchises, the Sunrisers Hyderabad hold INR 6.55 crore (approximately USD 0.79 million). The Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals both have INR 4.45 crore (about USD 0.54 million) each. The Lucknow Super Giants possess INR 3.55 crore (roughly USD 0.43 million), while the Rajasthan Royals have INR 3.35 crore (approximately USD 0.40 million).
The Royal Challengers Bangalore’s budget is INR 1.75 crore (around USD 0.21 million), and the Kolkata Knight Riders have INR 1.65 crore (approximately USD 0.2 million). Lastly, the defending champions, the Chennai Super Kings, have INR 1.5 crore (about USD 0.18 million).
