On Wednesday, the ex-Indian cricketer declared his departure from the Lucknow franchise, concluding his two-year role as their mentor since the team’s inception. Gambhir’s successful tenure saw the franchise qualify for the IPL playoffs in both consecutive years.

After securing two Indian Premier League (IPL) titles with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Gautam Gambhir has made a homecoming in a new capacity. He is set to take on the role of mentor for KKR, a position he previously held for two years with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Gambhir’s earlier stint with KKR, spanning from 2011 to 2017, marked a historic chapter. During this period, the team clinched the title twice, secured playoff berths five times, and even reached the finals of the Champions League T20 in 2014.
Gambhir shared his sentiments about coming back, stating, “Normally, emotions don’t sway me, but this is unique. It’s a homecoming to where it all started. There’s a mix of nostalgia and a burning passion as I think about wearing that iconic purple and gold jersey again. However, It’s not just rejoining KKR; it’s a return to the city of joy. I’m back, hungry, and proudly wearing the number 23. Ami KKR.”
