IPL 2025: Harry Brook Withdraws, Might Face Two-Year Ban. England batsman Harry Brook has withdrawn from the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League. Thus, marking his second consecutive year of opting out of the tournament. After his move, he could face a two-year ban from future IPL (Indian Premier League) seasons.
Brook, 26, was bought by the Delhi Capitals for INR 6.25 crore (approximately £625,000) in the mega auction held in November 2024. However, he announced that he would be prioritizing his international commitments with England and opted out of the tournament. In a statement, Brook talked about needing to—quote—” recharge after the busiest period” that he has ever had in his career. He said that playing for his country has to be his focus.
Harry Brook’s Previous exclusion other than IPL 2025
This is the second consecutive year in a row Brook has withdrawn from the IPL. The previous year, he had opted out after the passing of his grandmother. The adoption of a rule by the IPL states that any overseas player who withdraws after being auctioned will be banned from competing for two seasons. Unless the reason for withdrawal is an injury or a medical condition verifiable by the player’s home board.
Brook’s decision has arrived at a critical juncture for how England cricket will choose a successor to Jos Buttler. Jos is now stepping down as white-ball captain after England’s dismal defeat at the Champions Trophy. Brook, with his commitments to national duties, certainly emerges as the leading candidate for the role. This would have bolstered his case for captaincy.

The Delhi Capitals have not yet made any announcement regarding Brook’s replacement. The IPL 2025 season is expected to kick off on March 22, with the Capitals playing their opening match against the Lucknow Super Giants on March 24 in Visakhapatnam.
