IPL 2025: Teams with Most Successful Run Chase in Indian Premier League History: Successful chases in the past have been the writers of some of the most euphoric memories in Indian Premier League history. Whether for last-over finishes, record-breaking totals, or even single-handed performances, these teams can chase down targets with aplomb. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lead the race with all-time successes in this category, with the most wins in run chases in IPL history.

On April 12, 2025 Sunrisers Hyderabad chased a mammoth total of 240 runs made by Punjab Kings at Hyderabad. It is the second successful run chase in the history of IPL.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)—79 Wins While Chasing

KKR has been one of the most consistent chasing teams, with their most memorable chase in IPL history coming against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2014. In an improbable chase of 200 runs, Manish Pandey’s dazzling knock of 94 off 50 aided KKR in winning their second IPL trophy. Other contributors to KKR’s success have been Andre Russell and Gautam Gambhir.

Mumbai Indians (MI)—71 Wins While Chasing

Though MI has been famous for its breathtaking chases, one could hardly forget their chase against Chennai Super Kings in 2021. Chasing a whopping 219, Kieron Pollard played one of the finest IPL innings there ever was, scoring an unbeaten 87 off 34 balls to take MI home in a thrilling run chase that came down to the very last ball. Other significant players to step up and be counted in MI’s chases include Rohit Sharma. Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav over the years.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)—69 Wins While Chasing

CSK has an illustrious record of chased-down miracles by its teams, but the 2012 chase against Royal Challengers Bangalore appears to stand tall against all odds. CSK set an improbable target of 206 and required 43 runs from the final two overs. Albie Morkel hit a timely and spectacular 28-run over while batting with Kohli, which turned the match around for CSK and ultimately led to a five-wicket win.

Delhi Capitals (DC)—67 Wins While Chasing

The best chase came off for DC in 211 against Lucknow Super Giants in the 2025 season opener. The middle order showed enough steel to take DC home with a wicket to spare and set the tone for their campaign.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)—67 Wins While Chasing

RR holds the record for one of the most dramatic chases in IPL history: 224 against Kings XI Punjab in 2020. Sanju Samson’s 85 and Rahul Tewatia’s spectacular hitting in the death overs saw RR chase down what was then IPL history’s highest target of 226/6. Jos Buttler, RR’s other solid backbone, is key in many successful chases.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) – 65 Wins While Chasing

RCB has been at the center of some phenomenal chases, the best being their 2012 victory over Pune Warriors India, where a target of 183 runs was chased in. While Chris Gayle powered an explosive 81 off 48, Saurabh Tiwary sealed it with a six off the last ball. Both Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers have most often placed the biggest-matched weights upon RCB in run chases, clutching unbelievable matches from troubled waters.

PBKS stands in history with the highest-ever IPL chase recorded in 2024 when it chased down the mammoth target of 262 put together by Kolkata Knight Riders. The batting barrage paired with powerful anchormen saw completion in just 18.4 overs, thus creating a record. KL Rahul, along with Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal, has been one of the key men who have contributed to PBKS’s success in chasing runs over the years.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) – 44 Wins Chased Down

One of SRH’s finest-ever chases was accomplished against Punjab Kings in IPL 2025. While chasing 240, Abhishek Sharma (141) and Travis Head (66) set the platform for a solid clinical win by 8 wickets at Hyderabad with 9 balls to spare.

Gujarat Titans (GT) – 17 Wins While Chasing

Like any other relatively new franchise, GT is learning how to adapt to pressure and has displayed it very well. The most prominent moment would unfold in 2023 when they mind-bogglingly chased 190 vs Punjab Kings, with Shubman Gill scoring an impressive 96 to win the match last over. Hardik Pandya and David Miller will remain denied.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) – 8 Wins Chased Down

LSG pulled off a phenomenal chase against Chennai Super Kings in 2023 by chasing down 210. Contributions of Quinton de Kock with 88 runs off 50 balls and Evin Lewis’ blazing 55* off 23 balls left three balls to spare to manage the thrilling victory for LSG. Key run chases have also involved Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis.
