National Sports Awards 2023: Mohammed Shami To Get Arjuna Award| Check Full List. The Central Ministry of Youth Affairs and sports announced the National Sports Awards for 2023 on Wednesday. A total of 26 athletes, including India’s ODI World Cup 2023 star, pacer Mohammed Shami, have been nominated for the Arjuna Award. The awardees will receive their awards from the President Of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 9 January 2024.
The experienced bowler was a leading wicket-taker in the recently concluded ICC ODI World Cup 2023 with 24 wickets in just seven matches and is the only cricketer among 26 athletes to receive a prestigious award in 2023. The 33-year-old right-arm pacer from Uttar Pradesh mainly dominated One Day International. Shami has taken 195 wickets in just 101 ODI matches. He played a crucial role in India’s becoming the No. 1 ICC team in all three formats this year.
The men’s doubles badminton pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy have been conferred with India’s highest sporting honour Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. Five coaches have been nominated for the Dronacharya Award and three coaches have been nominated for the Dronacharya award for lifetime achievement.
