New Zealand Beat India By 58 Runs: Women’s T20 World Cup: New Zealand Women began their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign impeccably by beating India Women by 58 runs in the Group A match that took place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. New Zealand scored 160 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs, courtesy of a blistering half-century from captain Sophie Devine (57 runs off 36 balls) and also Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer.
On the other hand, India was unable to gain any sort of momentum, as their batters were no match for the Rose Mair (4/19) and Amelia Kerr-led bowling attack from New Zealand, as India crumbled to 102 all out in 19 overs. Indian batting order completely deflated, with maximum runs scored by Harmanpreet Kaur at 15 runs. Deepti Sharma, Smriti Mandhana, and Shefali Verma failed to deliver in the opener of the tournament.
New Zealand’s disciplined bowling was way too much for India, as Mair and Kerr did not allow even a single top-order batter to settle well. Apart from a few individual efforts, India does not have an excuse for the lack of partnerships created, and accordingly, the team folded. This match can restore New Zealand’s confidence after 10 straight defeats. They will hope to kick-start their campaign for the tournament with this win.

While New Zealand can boast and forfeit the merciless group stage draw, this comprehensive win gives them an early favor. On the contrary, India will have to quickly recoup in the time that remains to keep them in the race.
