Pakistan Beat Sri Lanka In Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 . In the first game of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, the Pakistan Women’s Team bagged a resounding 31-run win over Sri Lanka Women at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. After opting to bat first, the innings did not get off to a blistering start, which made them struggle to ventilate a healthy target of 116/8 in their 20 overs.
Most of their middle-order batsmen were able to contribute. Wicketkeeper batter Sidra Nawaz played a pivotal inning especially. Captain Nida Dar also scored significant runs to stabilize the innings.
While trying to score 117 runs on target, the Sri Lankan team, unfortunately, never attempted a sustained batting effort because of the discipline among the bowlers led by Fatima Sana, who systematically broke the batting lineup. Fatima was able to obtain vital wickets within small periods with the help of Sadia Iqbal and Nashra Sadhu. They were also instrumental in spin bowling, giving the Sri Lankans no room to relax.
The batters from Sri Lanka, including Chamari Athapaththu, were unable to avoid net losses of several wickets at a time while failing to establish any meaningful contests at the crease.

Sri Lanka started slow but stuttered towards the end and were left with only 85 runs off 9 wickets after the end of the 20 overs. Pakistan crowned their victory with an excellent all-round display of bowling, which was a great start to their World Cup campaign. It was evident that the Pakistan team had a lot of bowler depth, yet this made the batting lineup of the Sri Lankans more to be desired.
