Winning the toss and opting to bat first, MI Cape Town scored an imposing 181 for 8 in their 20 overs.
Substantial contributions by Ryan Rickelton (33 in 15 balls), Dewald Brevis (38 off 18), and Connor Esterhuizen (39 off 26) set their innings. In reply, Sunrisers Eastern Cape suffered against a steady bowling attack, making just 105 in 18.4 overs, and thus lost the game by 76 runs.
Notable performances in the match
MI Cape Town’s Innings: The team got to a flying start with Ryan Rickelton. Dewald Brevis and Connor Esterhuizen took over and paced the side to an imposing total. Though Marco Jansen and Richard Gleeson took two wickets apiece, the bowlers failed to strangle the run rate.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s Response: In the chase of 182, Sunrisers could not put their act together early on, with two or three top-order wickets falling regularly. A solid partnership of 52 runs with Tony de Zorzi (26) and Tom Abell (30), but some outstanding bowling for MI Cape Town by Kagiso Rabada (4 for 25) and Trent Boult (2 for 9) sealed their fate.
This victory is the first SA20 title for MI Cape Town, an emblem of their supremacy in the tournament. Sunrisers Eastern Cape were unable in their efforts to secure the title for a third time consecutively.
