Sanju Samson And Abhishek Sharma To Open In First T20I vs Bangladesh: Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of the Indian T20I team, has announced that Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma are set to open the batting for India in their first T20I match against Bangladesh tomorrow in Gwalior.
This announcement comes just ahead of the three-match contest where Samson will try to build his case on making it into the team for a more extended period.
Samson has opened the batting in only five of his thirty T20I games in the past and will be paired with Abhishek Sharma, who is the other designated opener in the squad. Assuming that role is a ticket for Samson into the upper order under the plans that the Indian team management has of trying out different T20I combinations for the upcoming events with T20 World Cup 2026 looming on the horizon.

While it has been an up-and-down performance as a senior opener in India for medical reasons, the clips of Samson’s plucky attacking power play batting, which he mastered while with the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, have led to the opportunity coming along. This series is particularly important for Samson, who has had inconsistency in the Indian setup since his debut in 2015.
The first T20I will be played in Gwalior, along with subsequent games in Delhi and Hyderabad. In this context, fans will be looking forward to seeing how Samson performs in the two capacities of an opener and while keeping wickets.
