Soccer fever is at an all-time high with the all-new UEFA Champions League 2024-25 season. 36 teams are vying for the champions’ trophy but only one will lift it.

UEFA Champions League is Europe’s premier club competition but this time around, the governing body has drawn up a new format. 36 teams are set to compete, but 25 teams automatically qualified for the tournament through their domestic league finishes.

The top four associations for the UCL 2024-25 are England, Spain, Germany, and Italy. France and the Netherlands are fifth and sixth, followed by Portugal, Belgium, Scotland, and Austria. It should be noted that two spots have been earmarked for the Champions League and Europa League holders.

UEFA Champions League 2024-25 League Phase Matches

The tournament will be played in a league phase, with each team to play eight games against eight different opponents. The top eight teams will then go onto the Round of 16. The playoff round will be held with those teams finishing from ninth to 24th. And this will be played in eight knock-out-style. The Round of 16 will lead up to the quarterfinals, semi-finals, and the final.

The UEFA said this new format allows clubs to test their players against a wider range of teams. Moreover, it boosts the prospect for football fans to see their top teams and top-notch players show their skills and play incredible games.

Germany – Bayern; Dortmund; Leipzig; Leverkusen; Stuttgart

Italy – Atalanta; Bologna; Inter; Juventus; Milan

France – Brest; Lille; Monaco; Paris Saint-Germain (PSG)

Austria – Salzburg; Sturm Graz

Netherlands – Feyenoord; PSV Eindhoven

Portugal – Benfica; Sporting CP
