Updated WTC 2025 Points Table After India Beat Bangladesh In First Test Match: In a test match against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India emerged emphatically across all aspects. Upon posting a colossal target of 515 runs, they completed Bangladesh’s second inning on Day 4 and won by a huge margin of 280 runs. This is now known as India’s highest victory against Bangladesh in tests.
Rishabh Pant (109) and Shubman Gill (119) were star performers for India as they set the tone for their large declaration of 287/4 after the second inning. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin were responsible for bowling consistently, with wickets falling almost throughout both innings. The Bangladesh team was bowled out for just 149 runs in the first inning, unable to withstand Bumrah’s unholy speed and Ashwin’s devilish spin.
In the second inning, Shanto (82) was the only Bangladeshi player who stood tall against India despite his lonely fight for half a century. However, due to a lack of proper support from the other players, he failed to save them from being crushed by the Indian bowlers.

While his six wickets were instrumental in taking down Bangladesh, Ashwin’s century in the first innings, along with a partnership with Jadeja, further highlighted why he is so important for this Indian team. On account of their undeniable superiority with the bat and ball alike, they comfortably won this match, making it a 1-0 lead for them in the series. Bangladesh must return to its senses if it hopes to compete against such strong opposition in future matches to come.

England is just ahead of them in fifth place after recently topping a series against Sri Lanka with a PCT of 42.19%. The end of the table is occupied by Pakistan, whose recent drop has been triggered by defeat to Bangladesh in an earlier series.
Both teams are trying to win a place in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final set for 2025 at London’s Lord’s Ground as interest grows. The number one and number two teams at the end of each cycle are then going to play for the title.
