Updated WTC 2025 Points Table After Sri Lanka vs New Zealand 2nd Test Match: Sri Lanka achieved outstanding success over New Zealand in the second Test match of the series, which took place in Galle, thus completing the series with a 2-0 win—a Test series win for Sri Lanka over New Zealand after 15 years.

The win came courtesy of an all-around performance by Sri Lanka that saw the team score a mammoth total of 602/5, declared with contributions from Kamindu Mendis along Kusal Mendis, who both impressed with the bat.

New Zealand, in reply, went on the back foot against spin bowling without an offense and was behind the game for large stretches. They were bowled out for 88 runs in the first inning. In the second innings, Devon Conway (61) and Kane Williamson (46) tried to control the situation, but before long the other spinners, spearheaded by Prabath Jayasuriya mercilessly took 3 wickets and Nishan Peiris took 6 wickets.

By the end of the third day, New Zealand already had five of their batsmen out in their second inning, with 380 runs required to avert an inning loss. At last, New Zealand managed to cross 360 and lost the game by 154 runs.

The victory in this particular series exemplifies the concerning return of Sri Lanka as a competitive team in test match cricket. It has also been a major period given their performance at the recently concluded series at home. New Zealand, on the other hand, has not won any of the matches in the WTC, played away from home.

After Sri Lanka’s triumph by 154 runs over New Zealand in the Galle Test, quite several changes have occurred in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points table. Sri Lanka then reached the number three position with 55.56% PCT.

This win was to improve their psychological standing, as they were positioned fourth before the commencement of the series. New Zealand, on the other hand, is placed seventh with a PCT of 37.50% after defeat against Sri Lanka.

India, as it has been the case for several moons now, sits at the helm of the table with 71.67% PCT, followed by Australia at 62.5% PCT. Sri Lanka’s improving position on the ladder makes it possible for them to dream of entering the WTC final, while New Zealand, on the other hand, is in a problematic situation due to their fall to seventh position.
