Women’s T20 World Cup Final: New Zealand Wins Beat South Africa By 32 Runs: New Zealand has done it. We have a new women’s World T20 World Cup champion, and white ferns it is, who hold their nerves and claim the glory. After runners-up in 2009 and 2010, the Kiwi women finally did it. Another heartbreak for the South African team, earlier men’s and now the women’s team, coming so close but yet so far.

South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first. The New Zealand team coming out to bat did not have the greatest start as they lost to Georgia Plimmer in the second over itself. But Amelia Kerr (43) and Suzie Bates (32) displayed immense grit and stitched a much-needed partnership. Finisher Brooke Halliday then played a bit of a cameo, scoring a quick 38 runs, taking the score to 158, a good score according to the pitch and the conditions.

The South African openers were dependable as usual and scored 51 runs for the opening partnership, which was broken by the left-arm orthodox bowler Fran Jonas as she dismissed T. Brits for 17, her partner, and the captain, Laura Wolvaardt, fell soon after for a score of 33.
