This brings DC to the top with the most points, insinuating their form this season.

WPL 2025: DC vs GG Match Summary

Gujarat Giants’ Innings

Choosing to bat first, GG lost early openers, Beth Mooney and Harleen Deol, as victims of disciplined bowling from Shikha Pandey and Annabel Sutherland. They were struggling at 16/2 within the first 3 overs. Deandra Dottin, 26, and Bharti Fulmali added 40 runs together to weather the storm. Overall, GG could make only 127 runs for losing 9 wickets in 20 overs. With Marizanne Kapp of DC taking 3 wickets at the cost of 25 runs.

Delhi Capitals’ Chase

Chasing 127, DC’s innings seem to reflect GG’s jittery start. Early in the innings, they lost Beth Mooney to the bowling of Kashvee Gautam. At 14/1, it was Shefali Verma anchoring their innings with a stellar 47 off 27 balls. While she formed crucial partnerships with Jess Jonassen (61 runs) and Marizanne Kapp (9* runs). Jess’s leadership and composure guided DC through the chase to get 29 balls left at the end.

Top Performances:

Jess Jonassen (DC): Led from the front with a match-winning 61-run knock, holding the innings down during the chase—enough for Player of the Match.
Shefali Verma (DC): Did heavy lifting with the bat and ball, scoring 44 of her runs in 27 balls.
Marizanne Kapp (DC): Took 2/17 to just rip through the middle order of GG and swing the match.
Bharti Fulmali (GG): Made 40 for her team to score in the top runs and provided great breakthroughs.

With such a triumph, DC has proved with its strategic depth and resilience what strong contenders they are for the title of WPL 2025. On the other hand, GG will need to revisit their plans and hopefully work on their top-order weakness to bounce back in the tournament.
