Bangladesh defeated Pakistan for the first time in test cricket in Rawalpindi. Mushfiqur Rahman was the man of the match for his 191 in the first inning. This match has also made key changes in the WTC 2023-2025 points table.
Pakistan had managed 448 in their first innings, including centuries by Rizwan and Shakeel. For Bangladesh, Mushfiqur Rahman’s century helped the visitors post 565, thereby securing a lead of 117 runs. The second innings of Pakistan, only 146, was quite disappointing, with Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan at the helm of affairs in the bowling for Bangladesh.
Chasing 30, Bangladesh comfortably attained the target without any loss of wickets. Shoriful Islam remained unbeaten to ensure a historic win for Bangladesh.

The victory launched Bangladesh from the eighth position on the table to sixth place, with a PCT of 40%. This win came not only to uplift their position in the rankings but also to send Pakistan down. Pakistan, who began this cycle so brightly, has fallen to eighth place now with a PCT of 30.56%.

India remains at the top of the WTC table with 68.52%, followed by Australia with 62.50%. While competition is on for the top two places, which are the finals for WTC, New Zealand, and England have maintained at 3rd and 4th spots, just a step behind the leaders.
This defeat is thus one of the big blows to Pakistan’s aspirations of making it to the WTC final. The win has been months in coming for Pakistan, who have seemingly returned to winning Test matches at home. The historic win by Bangladesh will remain one of the very few main round-up factors for this cycle of WTC.
