The Indian Olympic Association confirmed the star wrestler’s disqualification. It stated that Phogat, 3x Commonwealth Games champion, weighed in a few grams over 50 kg this morning despite the team’s best efforts. The association urged for the wrestler’s privacy and to focus on competitions.

It should be noted that before every wrestling match at the Olympics, competitors are weighed in, on the morning of the first competition and again on the second competition day. Phogat, 29, had earlier been competing in the women’s 53 kg category before returning to competitive action in January 2024. She had been on a 15-month break. At the Tokyo Olympics, Phogat had competed in the 53 kg category.
