Coco Gauff is into the third round of Australian Open

Coco Gauff continued her winning streak at the Australian Open in Melbourne, defeating Jodie Burrage 6-3, 7-5. The American dominated the match with speed and consistency. She leaped into a 3-0 lead in the opening set against the Briton.

However, Burrage, 25, was a tough opponent who defied her injuries and gave a befitting second round. But Gauff held her ground and kept up her guard, tit-for-tat with sets win. She broke Burrage’s serve and won eight points on her serve, making her dominance felt till the end. The second round seemed long as both Jodie and Gauff were determined to win.

The American tennis player felt the pressure but didn’t bow. Gauff, 20, is regarded as the best-returning player on the WTA Tour. She won about 45.7 percent of her opponents’ service games and 48.5 percent of points. The youngster is known to flip it on her opponents.

Coco Gauff Applauds Jodie Burrage

In the after-match interview, Coco Gauff told the media that it was a tough game. She applauded her opponent Jodie Burrage for serving well. “I was just trying to manage her serves and she stepped her level up at the start of the second set.”

Gauff said she started the first-serve points off on defense. About taking on World No. 173rd Burrage’s serves, the American shared that she tried to be offensive whenever she could. She took advantage of her opponent’s poor service game and got back into the game.

The American faces Leylah Fernandez in the next round.
