Emma Raducanu is into the third round at Wimbledon after defeating Belgium’s Elise Mertens 6-1, 6-2 on Wednesday. This is the first time the Briton has gotten into the third round of a grand slam since winning the US Open in 2021.
She will face Maria Sakkari on Friday. Raducanu’s win against Mertens comes just hours after confirmation that she would be pairing with Andy Murray in the mixed doubles. The 21-year-old dominated the game against Mertens, breaking serve and showcasing her authority.
Raducanu reflected on the game, saying it was unbelievable. She highlighted that Court 1 is her favorite court. Raducanu shared that she just thinks of the amazing win against Sorana whenever she has to play in Court 1. She said it was her first kind of coming out into tennis society. Highlighting her memories from Court 1, the Brit said that match was her first time playing on a court of that size. It was powered by the fans, the large crowd that had gathered to watch and the atmosphere.
Raducanu has been playing good tennis. In her on-court interview, she expressed the desire for more wins. The young tennis player believes staying in one’s little world, and creating an environment is the most important thing.

Emma Raducanu has never shied away from praising World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz. She followed the Spaniard on to Court at Wimbledon saying it was cool to watch him play. Raducanu believes Alcaraz has the same demeanor and enjoyment of the sport. She said he is great to follow and watch.
In 2023, Raducanu highlighted Alcaraz, 21, off-court demeanor. She said it’s more impressive how genuine and kind he is off the court. The Briton added its incredible how he can practically take the racket out of his opponent’s hand.
