Jessica Pegula is set to face Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open 2024 final after defeating Karolina Muchova 1-6 6-4 6-2 in the semi-final. This win for the American comes on the back of six major quarter-final losses. Pegula faces Muchova for the first time after Cincinnati, where she reigned in three sets.
This time around Pegula, 30, found her rhythm after defeating World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinal. She added to that victory with another win, this time slayed the Czech tennis player. With this win, Pegula has emerged as the oldest American woman in the Open Era to make it into the final, her first Grand Slam final.
Moreover, she is the third American woman, in the category of 30 and over, to make it into the US Open final, joining the likes of the legendary Serena Williams and Martina Navratilova.

Jessica Pegula Had A Tough First Set
It wasn’t an easy match for Pegula. Muchova dominated the first set and the American had to play catch up, and give her best shots. Pegula found her ground in the second set breakpoint. She scrambled to win that point and held on.
Pegula quickly took a 4-2 40-0 lead on Muchova in the decider. The World No. 8 got her break point but could hold on as her opponent came on stronger. Pegula held serve, followed by strong shots and won. She shared that she couldn’t believe that she managed to turn the game around.
