Mirra Andreeva is set to face Elena Rybakina in Round of 16

It looks like a Dubai rematch for Mirra Andreeva who defeated Clara Tauson 6-3, 6-0 on Sunday night and is gearing up to face 2023 champion Elena Rybakina in the Round of 16 at the BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells. Andreeva, 17, is making inroads as she is the youngest player to win eight consecutive WTA 1000 matches since the format was introduced in 2009.

The teenager has already made her mark, having won the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships just weeks ago. She played against the best – five-time champion Iga Swiatek and Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina. Andreeva also defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the French Open quarterfinals.

She has been working hard, improving after every game. Andreeva’s hold percentage is up from 67.6 percent in 2024 to 73.6 percent in 2025. The youngster has dominated in serves in big matches, with an excellent forehand. Andreeva holds her own, with more muscle power.

Mirra Andreeva vs. Elena Rybakina: Preview

Mirra Andreeva

Last month, Mirra Andreeva defeated Elena Rybakina 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to become the youngest player to reach the Dubai Championships final.  She stood out having beaten three Grand Slam champions – Iga Swiatek, Marketa Vondrousova and Elena Rybakina in a single tournament.

And now its Round of 16 against the Kazakhstani tennis player. The match could go either way, with Rybakina, 25, most likely to win as she knows Andreeva’s play style and weakness. The teenager lacks power, while Rybakina is offensive and more aggressive on the court.

But then Andreeva makes great comebacks and holds her own. She may ride high on her winning wave and scoop up Indian Wells too.
