Asian Games 2023 Indian Football Team
Men
The men’s football competition has been part of the Asian Games since its inception in 1951, while the women’s event was introduced in 1990. China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, South Korea and India have already confirmed their participation. It’s going to be an exciting and highly competitive tournament with teams from various Asian countries showcasing their skills and talent on the field.
On July 26, Central youth affairs and sports minister Anurag Thakur confirmed the Indian Men and Women’s team’s participation in the Asian Games 2023. On Wednesday AIFF announced 22-man squad led by Sunil Chhetri for the tournament
Women
The women’s event at Hangzhou 2023 will feature 16 women’s football teams. Among the participating countries are India, China, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam. The AIFF has put together a roster of under 23 players and sent it to the clubs to develop a new group of young athletes. these players could represent the country in the Asian Games, Thailand’s King’s Cup, and AFC under-23 Asian Cup qualifications. After the ministry’s approval federation will announce the squad soon. According to Time Of India report, skipper Sunil Chhetri, goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and defender Sandesh Jhingan’s name is missing from the list AIFF sent to the Indian Olympic Association for the Asian Games 2023.
