CSK is considering bringing back one of the star players in the past—Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin was a part of the CSK team from 2008 to 2015, when the team won several titles, including the IPL-winning years of 2010 and 2011. The CSK family would welcome back Ashwin with open arms, as it is always a delight to go back home, but it is also all hands on board for a firm spin department, which CSK is known for.
Ashwin’s stats
The figures have no doubt made a compelling argument for Ashwin’s selection. He has been one of the most effective and consistent spinners of the tournament over the years, such as in the case of 180 wickets from 212 games with an economy of 7.12, which makes him one of the most economical bowlers in the spin department of the league.

In between overs, there are instances when he has been able to pressure the rival players, which is a trait that CSK looks for when they play their home matches at the spin-orientated Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
Why Ravi Ashwin?
After this first spell spent with the CSK, Ashwin also turned out for other teams such as the Punjab Kings, the Delhi Capitals, and most recently the Rajasthan Royals, where he has continued to wow with his impressive bowling. He played 14 games for the Rajasthan Royals last season. He took 14 wickets at an economy of 7.51, providing more proof of his versatility and dependability.
His experience and familiarity with the Chepauk pitch will be a major plus for CSK, especially at this time when they are looking for prospects even with MS Dhoni’s retirement impending.

The fact that CSK is also interested in Ashwin goes on to emphasize their strategy of constructing an experienced core. In addition to Ashwin, the franchise is looking to add Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami to the mix for some added firepower in the bowling unit.
Given Shami and Ashwin’s addition, CSK could have one of the most balanced bowling attacks, with Shami’s fast bowling and Ashwin’s spin bowling effective in various conditions. Even as the BCCi is yet to put out the final retention rules, CSK appears firm on coming back for season 2025 with a well-built-in experience and diversity of players.
