Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2023
The nominees are:
- Pat Cummins – Scored 422 runs and picked up 59 wickets across all formats. Moreover, Pat Cummins did a good job as the captain of the Australian national team. He led to glory in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
- Travis Head – Scored 919 runs overall. Travis Head was a vital cog in Australia’s ODI and Test teams.
- Ravindra Jadeja – Scored 613 runs and picked up 66 wickets. Jadeja has consistently been the primary all-rounder in the Indian team across all formats for a long time now.
- Virat Kohli – Scored 1377 runs. Virat Kohli got back to sensational form in the 2023 season and performed particularly well in the ODI World Cup
The Sir Garfield Sobers trophy is awarded to the best overall performer in men’s international cricket across all three formats during the said performance period. Among the four nominees, Virat Kohli and Pat Cummins are the most apt to win this award as they have proved their mettle in all three formats. However, as Pat Cummins led his side to victory in the 2023 ODI World Cup, the balance might be tipped in his favour.
Predicted Winner: Pat Cummins
ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2023
The nominees are:
- Ravichandran Ashwin – Picked up 41 wickets and scored 150 runs.
- Travis Head – Scored 919 runs overall
- Usman Khawaja – Scored 1210 runs overall
- Joe Root – Scored 787 runs overall
Joe Root is usually ahead in the battle for the Men’s test cricketer of the Year award but there are better contenders this time. Both Usman Khawaja and Travis Head played important roles in Australia’s test team. However, as Travis Head was an overall better player in 2023, he might win the Test Cricketer of the year award.
Predicted Winner: Travis Head
ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year 2023
The nominees are:
- Shubman Gill – Scored 1584 runs
- Virat Kohli – Scored 1377 runs
- Daryl Mitchell – Scored 1204 runs
- Mohammed Shami – Picked up 43 wickets
This is indeed going to be a tough competition. If the discussion was solely about their performances in the World Cup, Mohammed Shami and Virat Kohli would have been the clear favourites to win the Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award. However, as the entire year will be considered, Shubman Gill has a much better chance of winning the award.
Predicted winner: Shubman Gill
ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year 2023

- Mark Chapman – Scored 576 runs
- Alpesh Ramjani – Scored 449 runs and picked up 55 wickets
- Sikandar Raza – Scored 515 runs

India’s Suryakumar Yadav is currently the No. 1 ranked T20I batsman in the world. However, considering the statistics solely, Alpesh Ramjani is way ahead in the run to win the Men’s T20I Cricketer of the year award this year.
Predicted winner: Alpesh Ramjani
