WTC Final 2025 Scenarios For India: How The Gabba Test Result Shapes Qualification Hopes: As the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test Series going on, India and Australia will be competing for the last leg in the World Test Championship (WTC) race. If this Gabba Test will end in a draw; India has to hinge largely on other results—South Africa’s series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka’s future contests against Australia—for its chances to the WTC finals 2025.

India’s Qualification Scenarios For WTC Final 2025

1. If India wins BGT 3-1
This is an automatic entry for India in the WTC final, irrespective of other results if India manages to win the series 3-1. The points thus scored would push the percentage upwards to quite a handy extent, and they would qualify easily in the end figure into the top two of the WTC standings.

2. If India Wins BGT 2-1
The fate of India will now depend on the result of the Sri Lanka-Australia Test series. India qualifies if Sri Lanka loses the series without a win. For example, 1-1 or 1-0 in favour of Sri Lanka will keep India in the hunt.

3. If the BGT Ends 2-2
The result will not only be a draw; it will also depend on how Sri Lanka fares against Australia in their series. Sri Lanka should win either by 2-0 or by 1-0. If Australia beats Sri Lanka clean, then India will be out of the race for the WTC final.

Impact of South Africa vs Pakistan Series

Also, as far as South Africa’s results from the series against Pakistan are concerned, South Africa would have to take at least one Test of the series with Pakistan for it to tighten the contest but not rule out India’s chances altogether. This is, of course, assuming that those conditions unfolded in favor of India in the above-mentioned manner.

What is at Stake for India?

And, as this would mean for India a draw in the Gabba Test, it complicates matters for India on the way to the final. In its line still stands the option of winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, as a series victory would make calculations easier. The upcoming test results will determine which match the WTC final—taking place in June 2025—will be contested between.
