The ICC Men’s T20 world cup 2022 has commenced, with New Zealand registering a thumping victory against hosts Australia in the opening match of the tournament. In the second match of the day, Afghanistan gave a good bowling performance against England, making them sweat to chase a poultry score of 112.

The Group 1 of the Super 12 stage is touted as “the group of death”. The reason is the presence of top teams who are almost equally dominating. If we look at the teams who are slotted in Group 1, we have hosts Australia, New Zealand, England, and Sri Lanka as the top 4 teams. All these 4 teams on any given day can be very dangerous.
We saw how New Zealand outplayed Australia in the opening match of the Super 12 stage, registering a massive 89-run victory. However, we cannot rule out Australia after just 1 defeat, as they can turn the table quickly.
England is also one of the powerhouse teams in T20 cricket. They have the most balanced team and can be lethal. Although England could not win their opening match against Afghanistan convincingly, they have the ability to play fearless cricket and outsmart any opponent in their group.

The remaining 2 teams Sri Lanka and Ireland are also good. Sri Lanka is coming here after its victory in the Asia Cup 2022. If they play to their potential, they can go a long way in the tournament. They defeated West Indies and reached the Super 12 stage. All in all, the group of death seems very interesting and every match in this group will be like a knockout stage for all 6 teams.

The Group 2 of the super 12 of ICC Mens’ T20 World Cup 2022 looks relatively easy. India, Pakistan, and South Africa are the top 3 teams in this group. Unless any surprises don’t occur, 2 among these 3 teams will advance through to the semi-finals. But, this does not mean it will be a roller coaster ride for the top 3 teams.
On Super Sunday, India beat arch-rival Pakistan in a super thrilling match. Now from India’s point of view, the journey to the T20 WC semifinals becomes relatively easy.
The biggest disadvantage of having a relatively easier opponent in the group is that all the top 3 teams can defeat the weaker teams easily. Meaning, they will have to perform better against the stronger teams to make the net run rate better.
India and Pakistan will undoubtedly be the favorites to advance from this group. India has the best batting lineup and if their bowlers perform better, they will easily advance through to the semi-finals. On the other hand, Pakistan, if their batters contribute in a better way, they have a very good bowling attack to trouble India and South Africa.
South Africa lost in the recently concluded 3-match T20 series against India. They have a good team, but the collective effort is missing. They will have to play some outstanding cricket to get ahead of India and Pakistan in the race to the semi-finals.
Looking at the 3 weaker teams Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and Netherlands, they have to show some magical performances against the stronger teams to have any hope of going forward in the tournament
