India vs Australia 2023: How Border-Gavaskar Trophy Can Decide The Finalists Of World Test Championship 2023? The Border Gavaskar Trophy’s 1st test is underway at Nagpur. Even before the series has begun, there are discussions about the possible finalists for the World Test Championships (WTC) 2023. Australia almost qualifies for WTC 2023 finals and this series will decide whether team India will reach the final or not.
Team India’s Current Position In WTC 2023 Points Table And Other Teams Equation
India is currently at the second spot of the WTC 2023 points table with 58.93 pct while the Aussies are at the top with 75.56 pct. An India vs Australia contest has always witnessed some high-class individual as well as team performances in the past and this time too, fans would be eagerly waiting for some thrilling action on the field.
Both teams will have an eye on the finals of the Test Championships but we have some interesting stats that could also throw surprises. For example, if India beat Australia in all 4 Tests, the Aussies will come down from a 75 winning percentage to a 59 winning percentage which will take team India to 67 percent. If all Tests are drawn then Australia will end up with 72 points while India will end up somewhere around 56 points.
New Zealand will face Sri Lanka next month in a two-match Test series in New Zealand. If New Zealand wins both matches and Australia loses the BGT series by 4-0, then New Zealand might have a chance to qualify for the finals.
On the other hand, if Sri Lanka wins both matches then Sri Lanka might be lucky to qualify for the finals. In case, if the Border-Gavaskar Trophy ends 1-1 and if New Zealand versus Sri Lanka series ends up 1-1 then India and Australia could be the possible finalists.
Team India’s Advantage
As the series happening in India, Rohit Sharma’s side would have a slight advantage keeping in mind they would be playing in home conditions. Indian spinners would be key to India’s campaign but their eyes will be on qualifying for the World Test Championship finals.
Australia, on the other hand, will be hoping their pacers come good. The Aussies have made some surprising additions in their spin department adding Mitchell Swepson alongside the experienced Nathan Lyon. Adam Zampa could have been a valuable option but the leg spinner hasn’t been included. 22-year-old Todd Murphy has been included in place of Zampa.
